According to an article posted on 8 May 2020 by the Daily Maverick, ‘it’s difficult to quantify the number of people in need during a crisis, but early indications suggest as many as 34% of people in South Africa have gone to bed hungry during the lockdown.’ The foundation supports two primary schools in the Nyanga township, where the unemployment rate is 68%, and the community faces poverty and violence daily.
With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown imposed on the country in March, those affected most are the most vulnerable…the children. Schools have been closed for almost two months where most of the kids receive their only meal of the day.
